Political campaign sign urging re-election of Haig for City Commission.

Andrew Haig. City of Birmingham, MI. City Commission

A happy family of four sitting on a bench in a garden. Andrew Haig family, Birmingham City Commission, Citizens for Andrew Haig, wife, kids, children, residents, safety, infrastructure

Hello, I’m Andrew Haig.

I am running again for the Birmingham City Commission to continue being the advocate for our residents.

For 17 years, my wife and I have called Birmingham home, where we are raising our two boys in the Birmingham School District. I’m a father, husband, homeowner, and volunteer. I’ve been active in the city for many years, including the last 4 as an elected City Commissioner. This role has given me a deep understanding of our community's needs, both as a public servant and as a neighbor.  As the only incumbent in this election who balances a full-time job, parenting, and caregiving, I bring a unique perspective that represents the everyday challenges and priorities of our community.

If we cross paths, you may notice my accent, which reflects my childhood home across the pond in the English countryside. During college, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sussex and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of Hertfordshire. We reside in the Torry neighborhood, where Angie and I are raising our two boys. By day, I am a Senior Engineering Manager for Westinghouse Electric Company.

I want to continue to be your voice, for the Citizens for Andrew Haig.

My top priorities as a City Commissioner are clear and focused on the needs of all of our residents.

First, I am committed to financial transparency. I’ve requested that we benchmark Birmingham's project costs against those of other cities. This will guarantee we are getting the best value for every tax dollar.

Second, our roads must be safe and well-maintained for everyone - drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. I will continue working to make sure we have an affordable plan to replace our unimproved streets.

Finally, we must ensure our water and sewer systems are reliable. These infrastructure systems are critical for public health and safety, and I will ensure they function effectively within the regional network.

These core issues are the foundation for a strong, healthy community. While a new resident survey will help us fine-tune our approach, these priorities are non-negotiable for Birmingham's success.
